Research and development of oily drilling cuttings treatment technologies

The use of oil-based drilling fluid will produce a large amount of oily cuttings during the drilling process, and improper treatment will cause harm to the ecological environment and human health. Countries around the world have set strict standards for the discharge of oily drill cuttings, requiring that oily drill cuttings must be treated up to the standard before they can be discharged. This paper introduces the relevant regulations and standards of oily drilling cuttings treatment at home and abroad, summarizes the main research results and application status of oily drilling cuttings t

Characterization of micro-structural deformation and its petroleum significance in Yacheng area of Qiongdongnan Basin

Cenozoic extension rates were calculated based on 20 seismic profiles across the Qiongdongnan Basin, South China Sea. The results confirmed that the Cenozoic rifting in the Qiongdongnan Basin exhibited multistage extension and spatiotemporal variation. In terms of the N–S striking seismic profiles, the structural forms of the northern and southern sags of the basin were characterized by narrow half grabens, while the structure at the center sag of the basin was characterized by wide and gentle grabens. The fault strikes in the west of the basin were mainly northeast–southwest tr

Mechanism of buoyancy and capillary forces dominated CO2 migration in layered saline aquifers

The storage of CO2 has become an important worldwide problem, considering that an excess of CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere causes dramatic changes in its climate. One possible solution is to remove the excess of CO2 from the atmosphere, capture it in the process of creation, and store it safely, negating the possibility of its return into the atmosphere. This is the process of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). In the following paper, the authors investigate horizontal saline aquifers and their ability to store CO2. The authors’ application of sensitivity analysis on horizontal mi

Molecular simulation of viscosity-increasing mechanism for polymer / PPG particle suspension flooding system

After tertiary recovery from the oilfields, improving the production of the remaining hydrocarbon is always challenging. To significantly improve oil recovery, a heterogeneous composite flooding system has been developed with preformed particle gels (PPG) and polymers according to the technical approach of plugging and flooding combination. In addition, an oil saturation monitoring device and a large-scale 3D physical model were designed to better evaluate the performance of the technique. The evaluation results show that the viscosity, stability, and elasticity of the heterogeneous composi

Catalytic performance on upgrading saudi medium crude oil over Ag-Ga/ZSM-5 catalyst and the formation mechanistic study of light aromatics product

Hydrogenation of CO2 to value-added chemicals and fuels not only effectively alleviates climate change but also reduces over-dependence on fossil fuels. Therefore, much attention has been paid to the chemical conversion of CO2 to value-added products, such as liquid fuels and aromatics. Recently, efficient catalysts have been developed to face the challenge of the chemical inertness of CO2 and the difficulty of C–C coupling. Considering the lack of a detailed summary on hydrogenation of CO2 to liquid fuels and aromatics via the Fischer–Tropsch synthesis (FTS) route, we conducted
