Numerical simulation of throttling effect on throttle valve at well bottom hole

In this paper, a new pressure reducing valve (PRV) with an orifice plate is proposed. The main objective is to explain the mechanisms of pressure reduction and energy conversion in the new PRV. A numerical simulation method was used to investigate the PRV internal flow field and to analyze the throttling effects of the orifice plate and the transform of thermal parameters as outlet pressure, outlet temperature, velocity, and superheat. A structure improvement method for the valve body and orifice plate is put forward to reduce energy loss. The governing equations for internal flow numerical

Combination treatment of active water washing and solvent extraction for oily sludge

Baiji oil refineries produce 3000–3500 m3 /year of oily sludge. This sludge is hard to be biodegraded, contains large quantities of crude oil, and hard to be transported into landfill sites. The aim of the present work is to treat this oily sludge by solvent extraction in order to separate this sludge to many components that are easy to deal with and recover the valuable crude oil. Different solvents types are used in this work: light naphtha, heavy naphtha, kerosene, gasoline, and methyle ethyle keton. The results show that methyle ethyle ketone gives crude oil extraction efficiency

Operating condition and fault diagnosis of electric submersible pump based on OCSVM

In wells that operate by electrical submersible pump (ESP), the use of automation tools becomes essential in the interpretation of data. However, the fact that the wells work with automated systems does not guarantee the early diagnosis of operating conditions. The analysis of amperimetric charts is one of the ways to identify fail conditions. Generally, the analysis of these histographics is performed by operators who are often overloaded, generating a decrease in the efficiency of observing the well operating conditions. Currently, technologies based on machine learning (ML) algorithms cr

Synthesis and performance evaluation of a hybrid cross-linked plugging agent

In view of the problems of polymer cross-linked elastic particle plugging agents commonly used in oilfields, including easy shear, poor temperature resistance, and weak plugging strength for large pores, the introduction of particles with certain rigidity and network structure, and cross-linking with a polymer monomer can improve the structural stability, temperature resistance, and plugging effect, and the preparation method is simple and low-cost. An interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) gel was prepared in a stepwise manner. The conditions of IPN synthesis were optimized. The IPN gel mi

Asphalt viscoelastic model and its universality under dynamic and static loading conditions

Even though every layer of pavement structure is important and affects pavement performance, the asphalt layers visco-elasticity plays significant role. Bitumen properties, as well as asphalt mixture properties, vary depending on temperature and loading conditions. These variations influence entire pavement bearing capacity and has to be evaluated in pavement design. The main challenge is material behaviour description through simple models to incorporate them to pavement design. Generally, pavements are designed using Multilayer Elastic Theory assuming that all materials are elastic, isotr
